Guildenstern: Our names shouted in a certain dawn...a message...a summons...There must have been a moment where we could have said no. But somehow we missed it. Rosen-? Guil-? Well, we'll know better next time. Now you see me, now you- -Tom Stoppard, R&G Are Dead

    I Hear You Knocking Down My Door...

    I Think I'm Cured...

    :: Friday, January 08, 2010 ::

    I thought trying to assemble my top albums of the decade was hard enough (I can't get past four -- Kid A, Merriweather Post Pavilion, Agaetis Byrjun, You Forgot It In People -- without throwing my hands up in utter frustration), but even thinking about trying to do my favorite songs is worse. I guess "Idioteque" would be number one, and the only other song I can really think of that I'd put next is Grizzly Bear's "Knife". Beyond that. . .no clue.

    I know which albums I would probably choose from for my top ten, but trying to pick the six the make the cut is difficult. Do I go with Illinois? Silent Shout? The Moon & Antarctica? Ys? Yankee Hotel Foxtrot? Sung Tongs? Untrue? Person Pitch? Since I Left You? xx? Too many choices. But I think the final six are somewhere in there.

    The 90's are easier. I think. Well, maybe not. It'd go Mezzanine, OK Computer, The Soft Bulletin, Automatic For The People and then I have no clue what happens after that.

    Damn, still only making it to four.

    ETA: Of course, a week later, I realized I didn't list Endtroducing. . ., I See A Darkness, Selected Ambient Works 85-92, or Music has the Right to Children. So maybe the 90's are easier.

    ETA2: And, damn, I'm still forgetting In The Aeroplane Over The Sea and Loveless.

    ETA3: Jesus Christ, I totally didn't even think about I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One. Clearly, I fail on several different levels.
